Oscar has supported clients with the design of many products which have consumable elements, or are entirely disposable themselves. With strict limits on the number of parts, material usage and manufacturing complexity, creativity becomes even more critical in order to find clever ways to improve function and usability.
This is a sector in which cost is of course paramount, however Oscar also works with clients to reduce the environmental impact through selection of more sustainable design approaches. To this end he was also invited to the House of Lords to participate in an evidence session on MedTech circularity.
Notable projects include a Red Dot award-winning FFP3 respirator with a recyclable filter technology (below), incontenance devices with disposable film-based consumables, and drug delivery systems with consumable components.
These products tend to require high volume manufacture and as such, Oscar has collaborated closely with manufacturers to understand the full production process in detail, and ensure the design is well suited to production on existing manufacturing lines.
